ANNUAL REPORT TO THE FRIENDS OF HOLY INNOCENTS CHURCH, LAMARSH FOR THE YEAR 2004
Registered Charity No 1088711Our income will vary from year to year mainly due to the receipt of one off donations which last year did not happen in large amounts. The attempt to make the churchyard a wildflower meadow was controversial and we lost some income as a result. The PCC has decided to end this experiment and in 2005 it is hoped to, once again, have the Churchyard mown and tended.
Our main expenditure was repairs identified as being necessary in the quinquennial review. The cost was £4,238 which was more than anticipated due to additional work found necessary as the repairs were carried out. Work included repairs to outside plasterwork, repairs to gutters, creating air vents under the pews, treating the wooden ceiling above the nave.
The church has been professionally cleaned three times during the year and this has enhanced the overall cleanliness and the look of the woodwork in particular. In 2005 it is proposed to have the church professionally cleaned twice.
I continue to work towards getting the bell restored. Professional engineers have prepared a report and drawings for strengthening the hanging structure for the bell and associated work. This report cost £587. The church architect has prepared a specification and plans for a trap door to allow the bell to be lowered from the tower. No account has been submitted. A further report is awaited from the bell restorer and then approval can be sought from English Heritage. Quotes for the work will then have to be obtained. Thereafter I will start fundraising both locally and from the major charitable organisations that support church preservation.
The church website continues to be very popular with over 4,400 visitors last year, who looked at over 12,000 pages. We are now able to show photographs of village events such as weddings etc.
The Trustees met once to approve and consider items of expenditure. They also met to approve these accounts.
In accordance with the constitution two Trustees must resign each year. Accordingly
Patrick Cooper and I will resign but will seek re-election.Enclosed is a proposal to amend our constitution, as with 14 parishes to look after, our New Rector cannot be expected to attend Trustee meetings.
